I like Valentine’s day because I know that at least one day a year Josh will do something romantic. It probably won’t be the only day, but Valentine’s day is a sure thing for me. He surprised me with a necklace. I was in a bad mood and had been pretty heinous towards him, and then I walked into our room and there was a jewelry box sitting on my pillow. I wouldn’t have given me jewelry, but that’s the kind of guy I married–long-suffering.
He gave me a very romantic Christmas present too. Before we started dating, he wrote my parents a letter to share his intentions and ask for my dad’s blessing. For Christmas he put the letter in a frame he made himself. He put my favorite quote in the frame (from When Harry Met Sally): “When you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” I cried when he gave it to me. I’ll keep him–although sometimes I wonder why he wants to keep me (but he swears it’s not just because I’m a good cook and I make him cute babies).
I took the mini valentines to Monkey Joe’s this morning. It was half Valentine’s date half “Dear God, please we’ve been sick for two weeks, and now that we’re better we just need to get. out. of. the. house.” Now I’m going to spend the rest of the day doing chores and copyediting. Josh is such a lucky guy. He does nice things for me, and in return he gets to play video games alone while I work.
